A friend of mine has been ranting and raving about fireworks lately, stating that they are dangerous, a stupid waist of money for something which only lasts for a few seconds. And I blamed him for being a spoilsport and thought to myself "come on you bore, live a little. How about enjoying the simple things is in the world for once? Not everything has to have a great meaning".
I rest my case. Last night 175 people died and 714 are injured because of a fire in a club in Buenos Aires, which started because of fireworks. The city is in mourning, no discos or clubs will be open tonight in respect of the families of dead and injured and it's the only thing on TV. The public blames the firefighters for not being efficient enough, the firefighters blame the municipality for lacking of funds and equipment, but it all seems utterly trivial when you see griefing people in the streets.
And this friend of mine is right, as usually. Today fireworks certainly seem like a dangerous stupid waste of money.
